A little about me…
My Names Richard, I'm a 27 year old maker based in Traralgon, Victoria Australia.
My interest was sparked in this craft at the age of 12 or so when I read a book series in primary school called Deltora Quest. The main character is the son of a blacksmith and being a young kid I wasn't quite sure what a blacksmith was, so I asked my dad and he explained what they were and what they did. Well let me tell you as a young boy the idea of fire and hitting hot steel was very appealing. It got even better when my dad told me that there was an old forge at the family farm in Orbost and well here we are 15 odd years later and the rest is history.
I pride myself with sole ownership so everything I am able to make myself I do, from forging my own Damascus steel to hand stitching each and every leather sheath I make for my knives, it brings a soulful connection from me the craftsman to you the customer.
Some Achievements Thus Far…
Some highlights of my making career to date are becoming a Forged Down Under Champion on Season 1 Episode 3 of Forged Down Under Australia. I was flown up to Brisbane to compete against 2 other makers in a timed forging competition where I was fortunate enough to take the title.
I've had a couple of my knives featured internationally in Knife Magazine and Blade Magazine in the USA
I'm a member of the ABS (American bladesmith society) as well as a probationary member of the Australian Knifemakers Guild
